Artist
David Eugene Edwards is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, born in Englewood, Colorado, in 1968. He first became known as the frontman of Denver group 16 Horsepower, whose albums Sackcloth ’n’ Ashes and Secret South placed songs such as “Black Soul Choir” in a stark mix of folk rock, country and post-punk. He later founded Wovenhand, and released Hyacinth, his first album under his own name, in 2023. 16 Horsepower toured extensively in the United States and Europe, and the live album Hoarse documented performances from the band’s 1998 tour. After Wovenhand became his main project, David Eugene Edwards continued playing clubs, theatres and festivals; the concert release Live at Roepaen captured the group inside the former monastery chapel at Roepaen in the Netherlands. Concerts connected to Hyacinth have presented David Eugene Edwards on vocals and guitar alongside the album’s producer and instrumentalist Alexander Hacke.
