Artist
Deep Purple are an English hard-rock band formed in 1968. The early-1970s lineup of Ian Gillan, Ritchie Blackmore, Jon Lord, Roger Glover and Ian Paice recorded the albums Deep Purple in Rock and Machine Head, including “Smoke on the Water,” “Highway Star” and “Space Truckin’.” In 1969, Deep Purple premiered Jon Lord’s Concerto for Group and Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Their 1972 concerts in Osaka and Tokyo were recorded for Made in Japan; after reforming in 1984, they mounted the Perfect Strangers Tour and later opened The Long Goodbye Tour in 2017. Deep Purple played California Jam at Ontario Motor Speedway in 1974 and later performed at Germany’s Wacken Open Air.
