About Egg
Egg were an English progressive-rock trio formed in London in 1969 from the earlier group Uriel. Associated with the Canterbury scene, they made tightly arranged, organ-led music across the albums Egg, The Polite Force and The Civil Surface; “A Visit to Newport Hospital” and the multipart “Long Piece No. 3” are key works.
Egg played British clubs and university venues in the early 1970s, and the trio also performed its organ-led material in radio sessions for the BBC. Egg stopped playing concerts in 1972, when Dave Stewart joined Hatfield and the North.
