Ethan Iverson is an American jazz pianist, composer and writer, born in Menomonie, Wisconsin, in 1973. He was a founding member of The Bad Plus and played in the trio until 2017. The group became known for original compositions and jazz interpretations of songs including Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and Radiohead’s “Karma Police.” His later recordings include Temporary Kings with saxophonist Mark Turner, Common Practice with trumpeter Tom Harrell, and the trio album Every Note Is True.

Between 2000 and 2017, Ethan Iverson toured internationally with The Bad Plus, whose appearances included Bonnaroo and the Newport Jazz Festival. His later concert work has included duo performances with Mark Turner and quartet engagements with Tom Harrell; in 2017, the latter group recorded Common Practice during a week at the Village Vanguard.
