Herbie Hancock in Los Angeles

Herbie Hancock is an American pianist, keyboardist and composer, born in Chicago in 1940, who plays hard bop, modal jazz, jazz-funk and electronic music. He was a member of Miles Davis’s Second Great Quintet and built his own catalogue around albums including Maiden Voyage, Head Hunters and Future Shock. “Watermelon Man,” “Cantaloupe Island,” “Chameleon” and “Rockit” are among his signature compositions and recordings. In 1965, Hancock played the Chicago engagement by Miles Davis’s Second Great Quintet documented on Live at the Plugged Nickel. He later reunited with musicians from that circle for a 1976 Newport Jazz Festival concert that introduced V.S.O.P., then toured and recorded live with V.S.O.P.
