Jill Scott is an American singer-songwriter, poet and actor born in Philadelphia in 1972. Her music draws on neo-soul, R&B and jazz, and her 2000 debut, Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1, introduced songs including “A Long Walk,” “Gettin’ in the Way” and “He Loves Me (Lyzel in E Flat).” “Golden,” from the later album Beautifully Human: Words and Sounds Vol. 2, became another signature song. A 2001 concert in Washington, D.C., was recorded for the live album Experience: Jill Scott 826+, documenting the Words and Sounds tour. In 2005, she toured amphitheatres as part of the Sugar Water Festival, a concert series created with Erykah Badu and Queen Latifah.
