About Mark Lowry
Mark Lowry is an American Christian singer, comedian and songwriter who was born in Houston in 1958. He is best known for writing the lyrics to “Mary, Did You Know?”, set to music by Buddy Greene, and for combining Southern gospel performances with comedy.
In 1988, he joined the Gaither Vocal Band and toured with the group until 2001; he returned for a second tenure from 2009 to 2013. He also appeared in Bill Gaither’s Homecoming concerts, performing songs and comedy within the ensemble program. His concert film Mark Lowry on Broadway, recorded at the Beacon Theatre in New York, documents his solo mix of gospel music and spoken humor.
