Meat Puppets in Phoenix

Meat Puppets are an American rock band formed in Phoenix in 1980 by brothers Curt and Cris Kirkwood and drummer Derrick Bostrom. They play punk-rooted alternative rock shaped by country and psychedelia. Key records include Meat Puppets II, Up on the Sun and Too High to Die, while “Backwater,” “Plateau,” “Oh Me” and “Lake of Fire” are among their best-known songs. In the early 1980s, Meat Puppets toured the American punk circuit and played with Black Flag, whose guitarist Greg Ginn released their records through SST. They later opened dates on Nirvana’s In Utero tour, and in November 1993 Curt and Cris Kirkwood joined Nirvana at Sony Music Studios in New York to perform three Meat Puppets songs for MTV Unplugged.
