Petra is an American Christian rock band formed in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1972 by guitarist and songwriter Bob Hartman. Its music ranges across hard rock, arena rock and worship, and its best-known records include More Power to Ya, Beat the System, This Means War! and Beyond Belief. “The Coloring Song,” “More Power to Ya” and “Creed” are among the songs closely associated with the band. The Beat the System Tour was documented on Captured in Time and Space, recorded at Knoxville Civic Coliseum and Greenville Memorial Auditorium in 1985. Two decades later, the Farewell Tour produced the concert album and DVD Petra Farewell, recorded in Franklin, Tennessee. Petra performs as an electric rock band, with Bob Hartman’s guitar and John Schlitt’s lead vocals central to its long-running concert lineup. The Petra Farewell concert also brought former vocalist Greg X. Volz back for a guest set during the John Schlitt-led show.
