About Possessed
Possessed is an American death metal band formed in El Sobrante, California, in 1983. The group helped establish the genre’s early sound through the album Seven Churches and its closing track, “Death Metal,” followed by Beyond the Gates and the The Eyes of Horror EP. Vocalist and bassist Jeff Becerra later revived the band and recorded Revelations of Oblivion.
During its original 1980s run, Possessed played Bay Area clubs including Ruthie’s Inn in Berkeley. After a long absence from the stage, Becerra returned with a lineup featuring members of Sadistic Intent for a 2007 performance at Wacken Open Air.
In the reunion era, the band also performed at Maryland Deathfest in Baltimore and at Hellfest in Clisson.
