Rare Earth is an American rock, funk and soul band formed in Detroit in 1960, originally under the name the Sunliners. The group became the first all-white band signed to Motown and gave its name to the label’s Rare Earth imprint. Its best-known recordings include an extended version of “Get Ready,” “I Just Want to Celebrate,” “Born to Wander” and “Hey Big Brother,” as well as the album Ecology.

Rare Earth turned “Get Ready” into a long concert workout, and that stage arrangement became the centerpiece of the band’s 1969 album of the same name. The double album Rare Earth in Concert documented the group’s live format in 1971, including extended performances of its repertoire. In 1974, the band performed at California Jam at Ontario Motor Speedway.
