Artist
Smoking Popes are an American rock band formed in the Chicago area in 1991. Built around brothers Josh, Eli and Matt Caterer, they play melodic punk and power pop shaped by Josh Caterer’s crooning vocals. The albums Born to Quit and Destination Failure, along with songs including “Need You Around” and “Rubella,” established their best-known work. After breaking up in 1999, Smoking Popes reunited for a 2005 concert at Metro in Chicago, and the performance was issued as a live album and concert film. They subsequently resumed club touring and played their hometown punk festival Riot Fest.
