Talib Kweli is an American rapper and songwriter born in Brooklyn in 1975, known for socially focused lyrics and his work in New York hip-hop. He formed Black Star with Mos Def and Reflection Eternal with producer Hi-Tek; key recordings include Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star, Train of Thought, the solo album Quality and the song “Get By.” In 2004, Talib Kweli appeared at Dave Chappelle’s Block Party and joined the Beastie Boys on their tour behind To the 5 Boroughs. He later performed at Rock the Bells both as a solo artist and in Black Star reunions. His solo concerts pair his rapping with a DJ, while Black Star shows reunite him with Yasiin Bey.
