The Animals are an English rhythm-and-blues and rock band formed in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1962. Their 1964 recording of “The House of the Rising Sun” became the band’s signature song, followed by singles including “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood” and “We Gotta Get Out of This Place.” The band built its early stage reputation through a residency at the Club A'Gogo, where it also backed blues singer Sonny Boy Williamson in 1963. A first United States tour followed in 1964. The original lineup reunited for a 1983 tour supporting the album Ark, and its performance at Wembley Arena was documented on the live album Rip It to Shreds.
