The Drifters are an American vocal group formed in New York in 1953 around former Dominoes singer Clyde McPhatter. Their rhythm and blues, doo-wop and pop-soul catalogue includes “There Goes My Baby,” “Save the Last Dance for Me,” “Up on the Roof” and “Under the Boardwalk”; a succession of lead singers and lineups recorded under the group’s name. During the 1950s, The Drifters toured the United States on rhythm-and-blues package shows as their early records reached a national audience. New British hits followed in the 1970s, supporting years of theatre and cabaret appearances by changing lineups frequently led by Johnny Moore.
