Timbuktu is the stage name of Jason Diakité, a Swedish rapper and songwriter born in Lund in 1975. He performs hip-hop in Swedish, often addressing politics, identity and social inequality. His best-known records include the album Alla vill till himmelen men ingen vill dö and the songs “The Botten Is Nådd” and “Resten av ditt liv.” In the early 2000s, Timbuktu began performing with the Malmö funk band Damn!, a partnership documented on the concert album Live! 2003. The collaboration established a full-band format for his stage performances and later reached Roskilde Festival.
