Voivod & Death Angel in Bratislava

Voivod are a Canadian metal band formed in Jonquière, Quebec, in 1982. Their music combines thrash-metal force with progressive structures, dissonant guitar work and science-fiction themes. Albums including Killing Technology, Dimension Hatröss and Nothingface established the sound for which they are best known. Voivod opened selected dates for Rush on the Presto tour in 1990. After vocalist Denis “Snake” Bélanger returned and Jason Newsted joined on bass, the band played Ozzfest in 2003. They later performed at Roadburn Festival in 2011, and that set was released as Live at Roadburn 2011. Their festival appearances also include Wacken Open Air in Germany and Hellfest in Clisson.

Death Angel is an American thrash metal band formed in Daly City, California, in 1982. Part of the San Francisco Bay Area thrash scene, the group is known for albums including The Ultra-Violence, Frolic Through the Park and Act III, as well as songs such as “Bored” and “Seemingly Endless Time.” A 1990 tour was cut short by a bus crash that seriously injured drummer Andy Galeon, and the band subsequently broke up. The musicians reunited in 2001 for the Thrash of the Titans benefit at Maritime Hall in San Francisco, then returned to sustained recording and touring. In later years, they joined Testament and Exodus for the Bay Strikes Back tour, bringing three generations of Bay Area thrash history onto the same stages.
