17 Hippies in Berlin

17 Hippies are a German ensemble formed in Berlin in 1995. They play acoustic folk shaped by klezmer, Balkan dance music and French chanson, and their catalogue includes the albums Heimlich and Phantom Songs. The group also wrote and performed music for Andreas Dresen’s film Grill Point. Rock’n’Roll 13 documented the group’s early concert repertoire. The ensemble subsequently toured outside Germany in a large acoustic format built around accordion, strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion, and performed at Glastonbury Festival and WOMAD.
