Abd Al Malik in Aix-en-Provence

Abd Al Malik is a French rapper, slam poet and writer who was born in Paris in 1975 and grew up in Strasbourg’s Neuhof district. He first recorded with the hip-hop group N.A.P., then established a solo catalogue spanning rap, spoken word, chanson and jazz. His best-known releases include Gibraltar, which received the Prix Constantin, as well as Dante and Château Rouge. In 2013, Abd Al Malik took L’Art et la Révolte, a concert-theatre work based on the writings of Albert Camus, into French theatres. He returned to this multidisciplinary format in 2019 with Le Jeune Noir à l’épée, a music-and-dance production created with choreographer Salia Sanou for the exhibition Le Modèle noir at the Musée d’Orsay.
