Academy of St. Martin in the Fields is an English chamber orchestra founded in London in 1958 by violinist and conductor Sir Neville Marriner. It is known for recordings of Baroque and Classical repertory, particularly music by Vivaldi and Mozart, and for Marriner’s soundtrack to Miloš Forman’s film Amadeus. The ensemble gave its first concert at the church of St Martin-in-the-Fields in 1959 and undertook its first overseas tour in 1967. Since becoming music director in 2011, Joshua Bell has led many of its concerts from the violin.
