About AKB48

AKB48 is a Japanese idol group created in Tokyo in 2005 by producer and lyricist Yasushi Akimoto. Built around a large, changing membership divided into teams, the group performs upbeat pop and is known for singles including “Heavy Rotation,” “Koisuru Fortune Cookie” and “Everyday, Katyusha.”

AKB48 began performing at the AKB48 Theater in Akihabara in 2005, using rotating teams to maintain a frequent schedule. The group later held concerts at Nippon Budokan in 2009 and staged a three-day Tokyo Dome run in 2012 titled AKB48 in TOKYO DOME: 1830m no Yume.

The recurring Request Hour Setlist Best 100 concerts ranked songs by fan vote and presented them as a countdown. The Senbatsu General Election combined another fan vote with live performances, reaching Nissan Stadium in 2013 and Ajinomoto Stadium in 2014.
