About Akiko Wada

Akiko Wada is a Japanese singer and television personality, born in Osaka in 1950, whose music draws on kayōkyoku, soul and rhythm and blues. She made her recording debut in 1968 and is known for songs including “Doshaburi no Ame no Naka de,” “Waratte Yurushite” and “Ano Kane wo Narasu no wa Anata,” which received the Grand Prix at the Japan Record Awards.

After her first appearance on NHK Kōhaku Uta Gassen in 1970, she returned to the year-end concert across several decades. She celebrated the 40th anniversary of her debut with a 2008 concert at New York’s Apollo Theater, then presented the two-day WADA fes at Nippon Budokan for her 50th anniversary in 2018.
