Alabaster DePlume in Manchester

Alabaster DePlume is the stage name of Angus Fairbairn, an English saxophonist, composer, poet and spoken-word performer raised in Manchester and based in London. His work places lyrical saxophone themes beside recitation, improvisation and folk-like ensemble writing; key releases include To Cy & Lee: Instrumentals Vol. 1, GOLD and Come With Fierce Grace. At London’s Total Refreshment Centre, he curated the Peach residency, bringing musicians, poets and dancers together for improvised performances. His concerts developed around changing ensembles, spoken introductions and pieces including “Visit Croatia” and “Don’t Forget You’re Precious,” a format also documented in his NPR Tiny Desk concert.
