Artist
Altan is an Irish traditional band formed in County Donegal in 1987 by fiddler and singer Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh and flautist Frankie Kennedy. Its music draws on Donegal fiddle playing and Irish-language song, heard on albums including Horse with a Heart, The Red Crow and Island Angel. In 1995, Altan performed at the White House during President Bill Clinton’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations. The band later took its Donegal repertoire to the Royal Albert Hall and Sydney Opera House, and its festival appearances have included Celtic Connections in Glasgow.
