About Amancio Prada
Amancio Prada is a Spanish singer-songwriter born in 1949 in Dehesas, in the El Bierzo region. His folk-based songs set Spanish and Galician poetry to music, and he is especially known for his work with texts by Rosalía de Castro and for Cántico espiritual, his setting of poems by San Juan de la Cruz. He has also recorded works based on writing by Jorge Manrique and Agustín García Calvo.
After giving his first recitals in Paris in the early 1970s, he made Cántico espiritual a lasting part of his concert repertoire. His performances commonly take the form of voice-and-guitar recitals, placing the words of Rosalía de Castro and San Juan de la Cruz at the centre of the programme.
