David Foster is a Canadian pianist, composer, arranger and record producer, born in Victoria, British Columbia, in 1949. His adult-contemporary pop catalog includes “After the Love Has Gone,” “Hard to Say I’m Sorry,” “Glory of Love” and “The Prayer,” while his production credits include recordings by Whitney Houston, Celine Dion and Michael Bublé. In 2008, Hit Man: David Foster & Friends brought him to the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas for a filmed concert featuring Andrea Bocelli, Michael Bublé, Josh Groban, Peter Cetera and Katharine McPhee. The performance became a PBS special and live release, followed by Hit Man Returns: David Foster & Friends, filmed in 2010. He later toured theatres under the title An Intimate Evening with David Foster & Katharine McPhee. His concerts center on Foster at the piano as he introduces songs and tells stories about writing and recording them. The joint concert format pairs his piano and production stories with lead vocals from Katharine McPhee.
Katharine McPhee is an American pop singer and actress, born in Los Angeles in 1984. She became widely known as the runner-up on the fifth season of American Idol, then released the singles “Over It” and “Had It All” and albums including Katharine McPhee and Unbroken. Her screen work includes the musical drama Smash and the television series Scorpion. In 2018, she made her Broadway debut as Jenna in Waitress at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. She opened the musical’s West End production at the Adelphi Theatre the following year and later returned for its final New York run. Her concert work has also included An Intimate Evening with David Foster and subsequent vocal-and-piano programs with David Foster.
