Anja Huwe in Berlin

Anja Huwe is a German singer and visual artist, best known as the vocalist of Hamburg post-punk band Xmal Deutschland. Her recordings with the group include the albums Fetisch and Tocsin, as well as the songs “Incubus Succubus II,” “Qual” and “Matador.” In 2024 she released her first solo album, Codes, created with Mona Mur. Xmal Deutschland’s first British tour included opening dates for Cocteau Twins, and a world tour followed Tocsin in 1985. Decades later, Anja Huwe returned to concert stages under her own name, presenting solo material and songs from the band’s catalogue; that return included a performance at Cruel World in Pasadena.
