Anvil is a Canadian heavy-metal band formed in Toronto in 1978, initially under the name Lips. Led by singer-guitarist Steve “Lips” Kudlow and drummer Robb Reiner, the group established its fast, hard-edged sound on albums including Metal on Metal and Forged in Fire. The documentary Anvil! The Story of Anvil brought renewed attention to the band and its long career. In 1984, Anvil performed at Japan’s Super Rock festival on a lineup that included Scorpions, Whitesnake and Bon Jovi. Following the documentary’s release, the band returned to larger stages and supported AC/DC at North American stadium dates on the Black Ice World Tour.
