Artist
Árstíðir are an Icelandic independent folk band formed in Reykjavík in 2008. Close vocal harmonies, acoustic guitars, piano and strings shape albums including Árstíðir, Svefns og vöku skil and Hvel. The group also became known beyond its album audience through an unaccompanied performance of the Icelandic hymn “Heyr himna smiður.” Árstíðir have toured across Europe, presenting their harmony-led arrangements in clubs, theatres and folk-festival settings. After a concert in 2013, the musicians sang “Heyr himna smiður” in the concourse of Wuppertal Central Station, where the acoustics carried their six-part voices through the hall. The filmed performance circulated widely online under the name “Árstíðir in Wuppertal.”
