About Attila The Stockbroker
Attila The Stockbroker is the stage name of English punk poet, musician and songwriter John Baine, born in 1957. He began performing under the name in 1980 and became known for politically direct poetry and folk-punk songs, including the album Ranting at the Nation. His work also includes the memoir Arguments Yard and recordings made with his band Barnstormer.
He took his solo poetry and music around Britain and continental Europe during the 1980s, including performances in East Germany before the fall of the Berlin Wall. After forming Barnstormer in 1994, he added full-band concerts to his spoken-word appearances while continuing to work in clubs, theatres and festivals. His long live history includes repeated appearances at Glastonbury Festival and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
