About Backyard Band
Backyard Band is an American go-go group formed in Washington, D.C., in 1988. Fronted by Anwan “Big G” Glover, the band plays percussion-heavy funk shaped by hip-hop and is known for tracks including “I Heard It’s the Bomb,” “Keep It Gangsta” and “Hello,” as well as the albums Hood Related and Skillet.
Backyard Band built its live reputation through repeated performances on the Washington go-go circuit, including nights at Club U. Its shows center on interlocking percussion, call-and-response vocals and songs extended into continuous grooves, a format documented by recordings made at Tradewinds.
