Balsam Range is an American bluegrass band formed in 2007 in Haywood County, North Carolina. Its close-harmony singing and acoustic string arrangements are heard on albums including Papertown and Mountain Voodoo, while “Trains I Missed” and “Moon Over Memphis” are among its best-known songs. The International Bluegrass Music Association has named the group both Entertainer of the Year and Vocal Group of the Year. Balsam Range made its Grand Ole Opry debut in 2013 and went on to perform at MerleFest. The band later established the Art of Music Festival in Lake Junaluska, bringing guest musicians into its home region for collaborative performances. The concert project Mountain Overture documented an expanded program performed with the Atlanta Pops Orchestra.
