About Barcelona Gipsy balKan Orchestra
Barcelona Gipsy balKan Orchestra is an international folk ensemble formed in Barcelona in 2012, originally under the name Barcelona Gipsy Klezmer Orchestra. Its repertoire draws on Balkan, Romani, klezmer and Mediterranean traditions, heard in recordings such as “Djelem Djelem” and “Lule Lule” and albums including Imbarca, Balkan Reunion and Avo Kanto.
The orchestra marked its tenth anniversary in 2022 with a concert at the Palau de la Música Catalana. Its live format is an acoustic ensemble built around voice, violin, clarinet, accordion, guitar, double bass and percussion, presenting traditional material and the group’s own arrangements at theatres and folk festivals.
