BCUC in Nottingham

BCUC, short for Bantu Continua Uhuru Consciousness, is a South African seven-piece band formed in Soweto in 2003. Its percussion-heavy music is built around bass, drums, whistles and forceful group vocals, drawing on local traditions, funk and psychedelic rock. The group is known for the albums Our Truth, Emakhosini, The Healing and Millions of Us. BCUC have performed at Glastonbury Festival and Denmark’s Roskilde Festival, bringing long-form songs and repeated vocal passages to large outdoor stages. Their concerts feature the full band and often develop individual pieces over extended performances, a format the group has also presented at WOMAD.
