Brainstory in Chicago

Brainstory is an American soul trio from Rialto, California, comprising brothers Kevin and Tony Martin and drummer Eric Hagstrom. The group plays deep funk and psychedelic soul shaped by rock and jazz, and its catalogue includes the albums Buck and Ripe, as well as songs such as “Mnemophobia,” “Nobody But You” and “Gift of Life.” In 2024, Brainstory recorded a live session at KEXP in Seattle, performing material from both albums. The trio later appeared at NPR’s Tiny Desk in Washington, D.C., where its set included “Peach Optimo” and “Bye Bye.”
