Big Sugar in Kingston

Big Sugar is a Canadian rock band formed in Toronto in 1988 by singer and guitarist Gordie Johnson. The band plays heavy blues rock shaped by reggae and dub rhythms, and is known for songs including “Diggin’ a Hole,” “If I Had My Way” and “Turn the Lights On,” as well as the albums Five Hundred Pounds and Hemi-Vision. Big Sugar spent the 1990s and early 2000s touring Canadian clubs and theatres before disbanding in 2003. The group reunited in 2010 and returned to the road, later documenting that phase of its stage career on Eliminate Ya! Live!. Away from its home base, Big Sugar has performed at Ottawa Bluesfest and the Kitchener Blues Festival.
