Billy Gibbons in Los Angeles

Billy Gibbons is an American guitarist, singer and songwriter born in Houston in 1949, best known as the co-founder and frontman of ZZ Top. Formed in 1969, the Texas blues-rock trio made his economical guitar riffs and dry vocal delivery central to songs including “La Grange,” “Sharp Dressed Man” and “Gimme All Your Lovin’.” His solo albums include Perfectamundo, The Big Bad Blues and Hardware. ZZ Top’s Worldwide Texas Tour of 1976–77 took Billy Gibbons into arenas on a Texas-shaped stage that featured live animals. The band later mounted major tours behind Eliminator and Afterburner, while his solo work led to club and theatre dates under the Billy Gibbons and the BFG’s name. Those concerts used a compact electric band that included drummer Matt Sorum.
