Artist
Binomio de Oro de América is a Colombian vallenato group founded in 1976 by singer Rafael Orozco and accordionist Israel Romero. First billed as Binomio de Oro, the group built its repertoire around romantic vallenato and became known for songs including “Olvídala,” “Cómo te olvido,” “Me ilusioné” and “Niña bonita.” Binomio de Oro took its accordion-led concerts beyond Colombia during the partnership of Orozco and Romero, including an appearance at Madison Square Garden in New York. After Orozco’s death in 1992, Romero rebuilt the touring ensemble and kept its established songs in the concert repertoire. Later stage lineups featured singers including Jean Carlos Centeno and Jorge Celedón.
