Artist
Bonga is an Angolan singer-songwriter, born José Adelino Barceló de Carvalho in 1942, whose music is rooted in semba. He is known for the album Angola 72 and songs including “Mona Ki Ngi Xica,” singing in Kimbundu and Portuguese. The concert album Bonga Live documents his work as a stage performer. His festival appearances have included WOMAD, and he has performed at the Olympia in Paris and the Coliseu dos Recreios in Lisbon.
