Artist
Brad Mehldau Trio is an American jazz group formed in the 1990s around pianist and composer Brad Mehldau. Its original long-running lineup paired Mehldau with bassist Larry Grenadier and drummer Jorge Rossy. The group is known for the album series The Art of the Trio, as well as Day Is Done and Ode, and for a repertoire of original compositions, jazz standards and reworked pop and rock songs. In 1997, the trio recorded the performances issued as The Art of the Trio, Volume Two: Live at the Village Vanguard. Further engagements at the club produced material for Progression and, after Jeff Ballard succeeded Jorge Rossy on drums, the 2006 recordings released as Brad Mehldau Trio Live. The concert format is piano, double bass and drums, and the group uses extended improvisation to reshape material within each set. Its live repertoire has included Radiohead’s “Exit Music (For a Film)” and “Blackbird” by the Beatles.
