Celtic Woman is an Irish vocal and instrumental ensemble formed in 2004, presenting traditional songs, contemporary covers and classical crossover arrangements through a changing cast of female singers and a fiddler. The group became known through its self-titled concert special and debut album, followed by releases including A New Journey and Songs from the Heart. Its recurring repertoire includes “You Raise Me Up,” “Danny Boy” and “The Voice.” The ensemble’s first concert was staged and filmed at The Helix in Dublin in 2004; its PBS broadcast led into extensive North American touring. A New Journey was filmed at Slane Castle, while Songs from the Heart was recorded at Powerscourt House and Gardens. Later stage productions included the Believe, Destiny and Ancient Land tours. Celtic Woman performs with a changing lineup of vocalists and a featured fiddler, supported by a band and, in larger productions, dancers and choral singers. The repertoire covers Irish-language traditional material, hymns, pop songs and works written for the ensemble. Most Celtic Woman dates have taken place in the United States. The ensemble has also toured Germany, Australia and Japan.
