Chris Norman in Varna

Chris Norman is an English rock and pop singer, born in Redcar in 1950 and best known as the lead voice of Smokie during the 1970s. His recordings with the band include “Living Next Door to Alice,” “I’ll Meet You at Midnight” and “Lay Back in the Arms of Someone.” His solo catalogue is led by “Midnight Lady,” while “Stumblin’ In,” his duet with Suzi Quatro, became another signature recording. The 2005 concert release One Acoustic Evening documented Chris Norman revisiting Smokie songs and his solo work in an acoustic setting. His later full-band concerts have drawn on the same catalogue, placing “Midnight Lady” beside the songs associated with his years in Smokie. He has returned repeatedly for concerts in Berlin and Hamburg.
