Cynthia Erivo in Los Angeles

Cynthia Erivo is a British singer and actor, born in London in 1987, whose work spans soul, R&B, pop and musical theatre. Her performance as Celie in the Broadway revival of The Color Purple earned her a Tony Award, while her recorded work includes the song “Stand Up” from Harriet and the album Ch. 1 Vs. 1. In 2011, Erivo played Deloris Van Cartier in the UK tour of Sister Act before taking the role of Celie at the Menier Chocolate Factory in 2013. She returned to the part at New York’s Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre in 2015, and in 2022 presented the orchestral program Legendary Voices at the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
