Daniel Lanois is a Canadian songwriter, guitarist and record producer, born in Hull, Quebec, in 1951. His solo work encompasses atmospheric roots rock and ambient instrumentals, including the albums Acadie, For the Beauty of Wynona and Belladonna. He is also known for producing U2’s The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby with Brian Eno, Bob Dylan’s Oh Mercy and Emmylou Harris’s Wrecking Ball. In 2010 and 2011, Daniel Lanois toured with Black Dub, performing on guitar beside singer Trixie Whitley, drummer Brian Blade and bassist Daryl Johnson. He later presented the instrumental album Goodbye to Language in concerts with Rocco DeLuca, building the music around pedal steel and lap steel. The Heavy Sun shows placed him in a four-piece ensemble with Rocco DeLuca, Johnny Shepherd and Jim Wilson.
