David Byrne in Saratoga Springs

David Byrne is a Scottish-born American musician, songwriter and visual artist, born in Dumbarton in 1952 and best known as the co-founder and frontman of Talking Heads. Formed in New York in 1975, the band recorded songs including “Psycho Killer,” “Once in a Lifetime” and “Burning Down the House.” Byrne’s work beyond the group includes the Brian Eno collaboration My Life in the Bush of Ghosts and the solo album Rei Momo. Talking Heads’ 1983 tour was captured in Stop Making Sense, filmed at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood and directed by Jonathan Demme. In 2018, Byrne toured the album American Utopia internationally, then brought the production to Broadway’s Hudson Theatre in 2019. In the Broadway staging, Byrne performed as part of a barefoot ensemble dressed in matching gray suits. The musicians used wireless, portable instruments across an open stage, and Spike Lee directed a film of the production. The production appeared at Coachella in 2018, and Byrne later presented it on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival in 2022.
