De Staat are a Dutch alternative-rock band formed in Nijmegen in 2006 around singer and guitarist Torre Florim. Their music draws on stoner rock, blues and electronic rhythms; albums including Wait for Evolution, Machinery and I_CON established the group, while “Witch Doctor,” “Sweatshop” and “Make Way for the Passenger” became signature songs. In 2016, De Staat supported Muse on European dates of the Drones World Tour. Later that year, the band performed “Witch Doctor” at Lowlands inside a circle formed by the audience, and in 2019 it developed the circular arrangement into the De Staat in the Round concert at AFAS Live. Their festival history also includes performances at Glastonbury and Pinkpop.
