Denis Matsuev is a Russian pianist, born in Irkutsk in 1975, who performs classical repertoire and jazz improvisations. He became widely known after winning the piano section of the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 1998, and his repertoire is closely associated with works by Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev.

In 2007, Matsuev made his Carnegie Hall recital debut. He later performed at the BBC Proms in the Royal Albert Hall and appeared at the Verbier Festival, moving between solo recitals and concerto engagements with orchestras. In 2014, he performed at the closing ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Sochi.
