Digable Planets in Minneapolis

Digable Planets are an American hip-hop trio formed in Brooklyn in 1987 by Ishmael Butler, known as Butterfly, Mariana Vieira, known as Ladybug Mecca, and Craig Irving, known as Doodlebug. Their jazz-based rap reached a wide audience through “Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)” and the debut album Reachin’ (A New Refutation of Time and Space); its follow-up, Blowout Comb, became another central work in their catalogue. After disbanding in 1995, the trio reunited for touring in 2005. They regrouped again in 2015, and their 2016 performances included an NPR Tiny Desk Concert backed by live musicians and an appearance at Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago.
