Dr. Hook is an American rock band formed in Union City, New Jersey, first billed as Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show. The group became known for its recordings of Shel Silverstein songs including “Sylvia’s Mother” and “The Cover of Rolling Stone,” then moved toward country-tinged soft rock and pop on hits such as “Sharing the Night Together,” “When You’re in Love with a Beautiful Woman” and “Sexy Eyes.”

The band toured North America and Europe through the 1970s and into the 1980s before its original run ended in 1985. Ray Sawyer later performed under the Dr. Hook name, while lead singer Dennis Locorriere subsequently presented the catalogue in concert under the billing Dr Hook starring Dennis Locorriere.
