About El Michels Affair
El Michels Affair is an American instrumental soul group formed in New York and led by musician and producer Leon Michels. Its catalog draws on funk, jazz and hip-hop, and is best known for the Wu-Tang Clan reinterpretations Enter the 37th Chamber and Return to the 37th Chamber. Other key releases include Yeti Season and Glorious Game, a collaborative album with Black Thought.
Before recording Enter the 37th Chamber, the group backed Raekwon and other Wu-Tang Clan members at live performances. Years later, Black Thought joined them for a 2023 Tiny Desk Concert at NPR’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., where the ensemble performed material from Glorious Game.
